OUR STORY

In the spring of 2018, God began to give Jake and Kassi Baird a dream of planting a church in a community that is “blue-collar, middle-class, hard-working, gritty, and had been through a lot, but is ready to come back from it.”

Pastor Jake stepped away from his role as a pastor at ITOWN Church in Fishers, Indiana, where he served for 7 years. They sold their home and bought a home in Wyandotte, Michigan. The Baird family began to lay down roots in the Downriver community and hosted a small group in their home. By the summer of 2019, this small group had outgrown their home and Comeback City launched their first Sunday service to the public on September 22nd, 2019 in Southgate Anderson High School.

In March of 2020, Comeback City began to meet primarily online due to the COVID pandemic. In January of 2022, Comeback City moved into a permanent facility in the heart of downtown Wyandotte.

We believe that Jesus didn’t die so we could practice religion for him. He died so we could have a relationship with him. Our heart’s desire is to help people find the freedom and life that Jesus paid for us to have. We invite you to come see for yourself what God can do with your life.

2018

The Baird family packed up their home in Indiana and moved to Downriver, Michigan to plant Comeback City Church.

2019

A Small Group began meeting together to launch a new, life-giving church in Downriver. With the dream to build a church that would lead people back to Jesus, this group grew from around 10 people to nearly 100 by the summer of 2019.

September 22, 2019

Comeback City Church held its first Sunday service in Southgate Anderson High school. Over 300 people attended that day, and 16 people made decisions to follow Jesus.

2020-2021

During the COVID pandemic our church was without a physical location to gather. As a result, we met almost exclusively online for the next 21 months. Through online sermons and meeting together in Small Groups, we continued to provide avenues for people to hear the gospel of Jesus.

NOW

In January of 2022, we secured a permanent facility for Comeback City Church in the heart of Downtown Wyandotte. We opened our doors to the public in March of 2022, and began seeing people from all walks of life coming to hear the gospel of Jesus. Today, our church is growing and many new people come to hear the Gospel each Sunday. Whether you’re new to church, or have been walking with the Lord for a long time, you are welcome to come and see what God can do through you.

OUR PASTOR

Pastor Jake is a second-generation pastor. His father and mother planted a church in Indiana where his father pastored for 25 years. Jake was ordained through Itown Church in Fishers, Indiana. He served there as an Associate Pastor for seven years.

In 2011, Jake’s fist wife passed away suddenly in her sleep. She went on to be with the Lord, and nearly four years later Jake and Kassi were married. They have been married since December of 2014 and have three boys; Nathan (19), Judah (13) and Valor (7).They are passionate about helping people grow in a relationship with God, strengthening families, and introducing people to the God who changed their lives.
